Cam Girls is an entertaining web series about women who earn their livings by appearing naked on the Internet. The first season follows Liv (Kate Bond), an unemployed schoolteacher who confronts her own prejudices and curiosity about women who work in the world of online sex.
In her newest adventures Liv is joined by her best friend Nikki (Annie Ruby), who is in the process of dealing with a failed marriage, and the mysterious Alexa (Sarah Schreiber), a powerful businesswoman with a closet full of secrets.
The series explores relationships and sexuality in the digital era, and how the proliferation of pornography has affected women. Is it safer to strip online than it is in a club? Does the monetisation of sexuality devalue it? Can we ever be truly anonymous online? As Liv struggles to navigate this confusing new world, she learns that things are no longer like they used to be.
Inspiration for this series came from Joëlle, 23 years old, who came home early from work one day and found her roommate Michelle (her alias) in an awkward position in front of her laptop. Shocked, Joëlle asked her what she was doing. Michelle explained her cam girl activities, which involved removing her clothing on webcam sites. Joëlle had never heard about cam girls and wanted to know more. Michelle took the time to explain to her that girls get naked in front of their webcams, masturbate, and sometimes simply chat with men in exchange for money.
Joëlle immediately thought that this could be a great idea for a new series. She asked Michelle if she could watch her in action to learn more about these fascinating women. Michelle introduced her to a very popular model who had created her own site and was making even more money than her. Joelle then did research by reading every article she could find with information about webcam models. This is how the series was born.
