Eating bananas online in an erotic manner is now prohibited in China

Eating a banana in an explicit fashion while streaming has been prohibited in China in the name of social harmony and good morals.
China has banned or censored online content deemed inappropriate and erotic, according to CCTV, a Chinese television network.

New rules stipulate that streaming sites must oversee their platforms’ content 24/7 to ensure that no suggestive behaviour, like eating a banana or wearing stockings, is broadcasted.

The ban on eating bananas resulted in thousands of internet users on Chinese social media asking how the rule will be applied. How will it be decided what is provocative or what boils down to simply eating a banana?

Many believe that people will be able to circumvent banana prohibition simply by replacing it with cucumbers, zucchini, or any other fruit or vegetable with a similar shape.

Unlike Western countries, there are no adult live shows in China. Webcam platform content is most often limited to young women who entertain audiences by singing Chinese songs, playing games on the network, or chatting with their viewers on their video chat.

Zhang Qige is one of the star web performers in China. According to estimates, she earns about $150,000 per year and attracts up to 400,000 users who watch her play video games.
